International Symposium on Sediment Management I2SM 9th edition

I2SM is an international symposium on sediment management, first held in 2008 in Lille, France, with the aim of bringing together researchers, industrialists, design offices and waterway managers to discuss the transdisciplinary issues involved in sediment management. After 13 years of success (in Morocco in 2010, India in 2012, Italy in 2014, Canada in 2016, Mexico in 2018, Lille in 2021 and Tangier in 2024), the ninth edition will be held in Hammamet, Tunisia, in June 2026.

Themes

  • Sediment and water
  • Dredging, treatment and sanitation
  • Environmental impacts and regulations
  • Characterisation and monitoring of parameters (mechanical, environmental, etc.)
  • Sustainable sediment management
  • Energy recovery from waste and sediments
  • Water treatment and purification
  • Operational decision support, multi-criteria analysis and artificial intelligence
  • Life cycle assessment
  • Governance of sediment treatment activities
  • Circular economy strategies for waste and sediment management
  • Marine pollution and climate change
  • Desert sediments and sand encroachment
  • Rainwater sediments

Symposium on the recovery of concrete waste UAS-IMT

This symposium was organised on 25 April 2025 in collaboration between the UAS and IMT Nord Europe (France) and aimed to highlight innovative solutions for recycling concrete waste from the construction sector. International experts, researchers and industry players shared their knowledge on the integration of these recycled materials into asphalt concrete, a sustainable approach to reducing environmental impact and optimising resources.

On the programme

  • Technical conferences and feedback
  • Networking with industry professionals
  • Round tables on regulatory and economic challenges

Research partnerships

  • The Sidi Thabet Research Centre
  • The Faculty of Sciences of Kasserine
  • The Applied Thermodynamics Laboratory at ENIG
  • The Higher Institute of Technological Studies of Gabès
  • The Laboratory for Research on Heteroepitaxy and Applications (LRHEA) at ENIM
  • The National School of Mines and Telecommunications Lille-Douai, IMT Nord Europe France

Research partnerships

UAS collaborates with foreign universities, European research centers, and innovative companies, thereby strengthening the international dimension of its research and the impact of its initiatives.

Valorization & innovation

The results of research at UAS are integrated into teaching, student projects, incubated prototypes, and the UAS Innovation journal, with a promotion space and a technology incubator currently under development.

Projects and financing

Every year, UAS launches internal calls for projects and supports its researchers in seeking external funding (national agencies, European funds, etc.).
